Before I started my tech career, I didn’t know quite what to expect. There are many myths and stereotypes about tech that are transmitted through memes or through TV shows like Silicon Valley. But reality is much more subtle, and there are several things I wish I knew before starting a tech career:

WordPress is one of the most popular content management systems on the market. An incredible 37% of all websites use it. Chances are, you’ve seen many WordPress-built websites.

But WordPress was designed for a different era. It was first released in 2003, almost two decades ago. Cutting edge at the time, it helped fuel the blogging revolution of the early 2000s. 

Remote work has exploded in popularity over the last couple of years, as businesses were forced to close offices during the pandemic. About 16% of companies are fully remote, with 44% not allowing any remote work at all.

But many people are skeptical- can remote work function as well as traditional office work?

Although there is not yet enough research to draw definitive conclusions, most existing studies suggest that remote work, when done properly, can be at least as effective as office work. This is because the advantages of remote work make up for its disadvantages.

With all the recent buzz about ChatGPT and AI, there has been a flurry of conversations about Machine Learning (ML) and Natural Language Processing (NLP). Often, the terms are used interchangeably, but they have slightly different meanings.

Where ML and NLP intersect, we have incredible new technologies like AI chatbots and generative text programs. These technologies are based on the Deep Learning paradigm, which trains computers to perform complex tasks using data.

People have many misconceptions about working in the IT industry. There’s a stereotype that tech is run by lone, male, 21-year-old math geniuses spending every waking moment in front of a computer. 

But the opposite is closer to the truth. The IT industry is really run by a wide variety of regular people from every age, gender, ethnicity, and background.
